GRE Calculator
A free, no-sign-up replica of the on-screen calculator used on the GRE Quantitative section. Practice with the same tool you'll use on test day — mouse or keyboard.
What is the GRE on-screen calculator?
On the GRE Quantitative Reasoning section, ETS gives every test-taker a simple on-screen calculator. You can't bring your own device, so the only calculator available is the basic one built into the test software. It handles the four core operations, square roots, and a small set of memory functions — nothing more advanced. Knowing its quirks (and its limits) before test day saves time and avoids surprises.
How to use this calculator
- Click the keypad, or type with your keyboard: digits 0–9, operators + − * /, parentheses ( ), and Enter for equals.
- Use √ for square root, ± to flip the sign, and MR / MC / M+ for memory recall, clear, and add.
- C clears everything; CE clears the current entry; Backspace deletes the last digit.
- Expand Keyboard Shortcuts beneath the keypad for the full list.
GRE calculator rules to remember
- The calculator appears only on the Quantitative section.
- There is no calculator on Verbal Reasoning or Analytical Writing.
- You may not bring your own physical calculator.
- The display holds up to eight digits; very large or very small results show an error.
- The Transfer Display button (in the real exam) pastes the result straight into a numeric-entry answer box.
